The large selection and multiple menus at Tako Grill complicate the task of ordering. Traditional sushi and sashimiavailable both in set combinations and a la carteare very good. A separate menu offers robatayaki, grilled dishes, also done well. Finally, there are the customary tempura, teriyaki, sukiyaki, and others, also very well cooked.
What distinguishes Tako Grill from other successful Japanese places is the availability of many smaller dishes. From the robatayaki menu, order grilled eggplant or mushrooms with ginger sauce, potatoes with butter, golf ballsized octopus with a sweet sauce, or one of the small fish. Some of these are priced as low as $2. Other grazing-sized dishes, some of which are on the appetizer menu, are steamed clams or mussels in a garlic-laced broth, stir-fried ginger pork, deep-fried oysters, crisp tempura, and tender negimaki. The last two also come in main-course portions. Also very good are the teriyaki of beef, chicken, or salmon and the beef sukiyaki.
