Il Pizzico **
Rockville , ¢

Not that many years ago, this restaurant consisted of a handful of Formica tables and divided its focus between a takeout delicatessen and a restaurant. Since then, it has tripled in size and now provides customers with the luxury of cloth napkins and tablecloths and a fine wine list. But the food remains good Northern Italian cooking at reasonable prices.

Good appetizer choices are the shrimp, scallops, and mussels marinated with olive oil, lemon, and herbs, and the grilled vegetables. Pastas, available as a main course or shared as an appetizer or separate course, include a fine house-made ravioli and a penne with spinach.

Main-course treats include shrimp with garlic-and-white-wine sauce; filet of sole with rosemary and lemon-butter sauce; and veal scallopine with artichokes, olives, and capers in lemon sauce. The house-made breads and desserts are worth saving room for, and the wine list includes some pleasing bottles at around $15.

Il Pizzico , 15209 Frederick Rd., Rockville ; 301-309-0610. Open Monday through Friday for lunch and dinner, Saturday for dinner.   MapIt!
