The pleasures of dining at Aditi include an authentically spicy Madras chicken curry, a torrid lamb vindaloo, a gently seasoned pilaf of rice garnished with shrimp, tandoor-roasted chicken given a brief simmering in a buttery tomato sauce, okra curry, and two made-to-order breadsan onion-stuffed kulcha and an air-puffed poori.
The predictability of Aditi's unchanging menu can give the impression that India's cuisine is narrow in scope, but the kitchen prepares familiar dishes so well that one seems to be tasting them for the first time.
Aditi , 3299 M St. NW, Washington; 202-625-6825. Open daily for lunch and dinner.
