Xinh Xinh
Falls Church
One could eat noodle soup for a month at this low-key Vietnamese storefront and not have the same bowl twice. Around the corner from the Eden Center, Xinh Xinh ladles up steaming, broth-filled bowls of the familiar pho (Hanoi-style beef noodle soup), as well as a Saigon variation, both with banh pho, dried rice noodles. But it doesn't stop there. There are also numerous bowls with mi (egg noodles), and bun (thin vermicelli rice noodles). The former are laced with such gems as stewed duck (a tasty Saigon specialty), wontons, barbecued pork, and, in an elixir for the brave, assorted livers, hearts, kidneys, shrimp, and fish balls. The vermicelli soups come bobbing with spring rolls, charcoal-broiled shrimp, and sour-pork ham. If you aren't up for a liquid lunch (or dinner), there are other appealing possibilities: well-made spring and summer rolls, a salad of beef jerky and green papaya, crispy whole fish, stir-fried chicken with chili, and a very fine rendition of the popular banh xeo, a crisp crepe-like pancake filled with pork, shrimp, and an avalanche of bean sprouts.
Xinh Xinh , 6621 Wilson Boulevard, Falls Church; 703/534-5730. Open 11 am to 10 pm daily. AE, DC, MC, V.
