That's Amore
Rockville , Vienna

If you want an intimate dining experience, That's Amore is not the place for you. These restaurants specialize in boisterous eating. Anything smaller than a party of four is overwhelmed not only by the size of the portions but also by the seemingly endless renditions of "Happy Birthday." Each dish listed on the menu is designed for two or more hearty eaters. The family-style approach, passing the platter around the table, makes this an especially attractive restaurant for large groups.

Good antipasto choices include the grilled calamari (diners get whole squid, not just slices), stuffed mushrooms, and the mixed hot antipasto. Pastas are very good; try the ziti or rigatoni with sausage and broccoli or the linguini with white clam sauce. Main-course successes include a whole chicken Vesuvio, a whole cut-up chicken that comes with excellent thick-cut potatoes; porterhouse steak pizzaiola; giambotto, a combination of sausage, chicken, mushrooms, roast potatoes, peppers, onions; and shrimp fra diavolo. Most main courses come without vegetables; an order of spinach or mushrooms will correct that omission.
