Thai Amarin
Wheaton

Time seems to stand still at thai amarin. The decor, menu, preparation, even the servers appear unchanged over the past decade. While the decor does little to emphasize the restaurant's Thai connection, the kitchen provides some of the more authentic Thai food available locally. The varied menu clearly describes the dishes and identifies the degree of spiciness.

The standard Thai appetizers are very good. Try the crispy, deep-fried spring rolls, the tender and marinated pork satay, and the chicken wings stuffed with a mixture of minced pork and chicken. Spicier starters include several room-temperature salads, such as larb and pla.

Whole fish, whether steamed or deep-fried (preferably with black-bean sauce), are well done. Curries occupy a prominent place on the menu; they range from the fiery forest curry to the milder seafood curry baked in a banana leaf. Duck lovers will like the double-cooked duck, roasted, then deep-fried, as well as the Amarin roasted duck with sautéed onions. Include a vegetable dish in any meal; eggplant with chicken and basil is a good bet.
