Nulbom Restaurant
Rockville

Because many non-koreans do not know much about Korean food, most local restaurants featuring this cuisine also offer a selection of Japanese dishes. Nulbom is no exception, offering sushi, tempura, teriyaki, and a few other Japanese specialties. But anyone who enjoys the food of Thailand or Vietnam should try the similar, yet distinctive, food of Korea. There are few better places to experiment than here.

Try the pan-fried dumplings (mandu) stuffed with ground beef and scallions; bimbim bap, a salad of rice, zucchini, and beef to which a hot sauce is added to taste; and the scallion pancake made of rice and wheat flour studded with scallions. Do-it-yourself grilled beef is a staple of Korean cooking, and cooking your own is part of the fun. Several noodle dishes are similar to Chinese preparations. Main-course soups can be very spicy or exotic (pork-neck-and-potato soup is both) or, like dumpling soup, familiar and comforting. Nulbom also offers an unusual menu of dishes that resemble miniature shish kebabs, including skewered and grilled mushrooms, smelts, squid, and ginkgo nuts.
