Melati
Washington

Having become a neighborhood success with its ample menu of Indonesian and Malaysian specialties, Melati is keeping dining interesting for its regulars with seasonal daily specials. If the Sumatran-style eggplant is being offered when you make your visit, you'll have a chance to taste one of the best dishes in the local Asian repertory.

The best introduction to the Indonesian side of Melati's menu is the rijstaffel, which includes an appetizer, a soup, and a tray set with a large bowl of rice and dainty portions of ten different dishes. Good choices among the Malaysian specialties include meal-size noodle soups with a choice of meat or seafood garnishes; stir-fried egg noodles with shrimp; shrimp glazed with a fiery Malaysian chili sauce; ginger-sauced chicken; and pork curry.
