Tables are covered with newspapers. The utensils are short-bladed knives and wooden mallets. Also provided are extra spices, vinegar, and paper napkins. All-you-can-eat crab feasts at bargain prices are a thing of the past--they were priced at $19.95 a person at last look. So order as many medium, large, or extra large as you can enjoy and afford. Be sure to make a reservation: Even if the tables aren't all taken, crabs could be in short supply. And be there at the appointed hour. The crabs will be.
Bethesda Crab House , 4958 Bethesda Avenue, Bethesda; 301/652-3382. Open daily 9 am to midnight. No credit cards.
