Bethesda Crab House
Bethesda

The specialty here is seasoned hard-shell crabs. Depending on the time of year, the best might be found in the Chesapeake Bay or in the Gulf of Mexico, and that's where Bethesda Crab House goes to get them. There are also spiced shrimp and crab cakes, but it's the hard-shell crabs that make the restaurant so popular.

Tables are covered with newspapers. The utensils are short-bladed knives and wooden mallets. Also provided are extra spices, vinegar, and paper napkins. All-you-can-eat crab feasts at bargain prices are a thing of the past--they were priced at $19.95 a person at last look. So order as many medium, large, or extra large as you can enjoy and afford. Be sure to make a reservation: Even if the tables aren't all taken, crabs could be in short supply. And be there at the appointed hour. The crabs will be.
