There is nothing on this menu that you won't find at other local Indian restaurants, but this kitchen's talent makes it seem as though you are tasting a lamb vindaloo, a Madras chicken curry, or cubes of housemade cheese simmered in spinach for the first time. Nowadays, every self-respecting Indian restaurant has a charcoal-fired clay oven, but nowhere else does one find as deliciously smoky tandoori chicken as at Aditi. For a newcomer who wants a representative sampling of the house specialties, the $13.95 tasting menu is a bargain-priced feast that will challenge any appetite.
Aditi , 3299 M Street NW, Washington; 202/625-6825. Open Monday through Thursday 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and 5:30 to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and 5:30 to 10:30 pm, Sunday noon to 2:30 pm and 5:30 to 10 pm. AE, D, DC, MC, V.
